Writing Prompt : The Best Gift

Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received.

One of the best gifts I have ever received was immediately following my graduation from grad school. At the time, myself and my then long-term partner were in a long distance relationship as I was in grad school and they had received a job offer right out of college. It was a tough two years but we made it work and now we’re better than ever.

Following all the graduation activities we went back to my apartment to open presents with my friends and roommates. I received so many beautiful and heartfelt presents and was honestly an emotional wreck. Then I was told to open the last present from my partner.

When I unwrapped all the wrapping paper I found a box only to open it and find another box. There were so many boxes to go through and they kept on getting smaller and smaller as I went on.

Finally I got to the last box. Inside the box was a print out of our flight itinerary. As a graduation present, my partner had gotten us two tickets to London. By this point, I was overwhelmed and just so happy. Right then I was told that not only were we going to London, but we had reservations to go to the Harry Potter studio tour.

Now if you know anything about me, you know that I am a huge fan of Harry Potter and have been since I was in second grade. Before knowing about the tour, this gift was already amazing but then knowing that that was the main reason for this location choice, really set me over the edge.

The trip was absolutely amazing, and we even decided to extend it to be able to go to Paris as well. Coincidentally one of my friends I met in Brazil also happened to be in London at the same time, so I got to schedule a long awaited reunion.

The trip went off without a hitch and we were able to do so many things and see so many things. This gift really ended up being the perfect culmination to so many years of hard work and an amazing experience for the two of us to share.
